Welcome to my website.  I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist working in private practice in northeast London.  I also have many years’ experience of working with children, young people and their parents in the NHS.

What child psychotherapists do:
Child and adolescent psychotherapists treat children and young people for a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties, from earliest childhood through to late adolescence.  We work with their parents, or carers, and with other professionals. The focus is on understanding and working on the underlying reasons that have come together to cause the difficulties the child or young person is experiencing. Sometimes a brief intervention is enough to resolve the problem, though a longer piece of work may be needed where problems are deep-seated and have become entrenched over time.

Where child psychotherapists work:
Child and adolescent psychotherapists work in the NHS in specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services [Tier 3 CAMHS], and in other areas of the public sector, in voluntary third sector services, and in private practice.  We work collaboratively with others, including child and adolescent psychiatrists, paediatricians, clinical and educational psychologists, family therapists, GPs, health visitors, nurses and teachers.

Training and regulation:
Regulated by the Association of Child Psychotherapists [ACP], child and adolescent psychotherapists have a six-year graduate-entry training, which equips them to work with a wide range of presenting problems and depths of disturbance. The ACP website has comprehensive information about what child psychotherapists have to offer, details of their training, and the research and evidence base.
