Supervision

Individual Supervision:
I have long experience of supervising a wide range of professionals who work directly with children and young people.  This ranges from detailed in-depth weekly supervision of child psychotherapists in training and of other specialist child and adolescent mental health [CAMHS] professionals, through to less intensive supervision of school counsellors, art and music therapists, specialist social workers, and junior doctors.

Supervision gives a structured space in which to explore and develop deeper understanding of the underlying emotional meaning of the child’s or young person’s communications and how these might relate to their past and present relationships and experiences. Discussion about technique and management of cases also comes into play.

Work discussion groups:
I have many years’ experience of providing facilitation to work discussion groups, whose members have included specialist social workers, teachers and health visitors.

Group members may be professionals who work together in uni-professional groups or in multi-disciplinary teams, or individuals coming together with a common purpose.  Having an outside perspective informing group discussion can be transforming to direct work with children, young people and their parents or carers.  Discussion can also focus on dilemmas arising from working with the network of other involved professionals, and the associated stresses of the workplace.
